Began life as a 1963 Almond Green Austin Mini Cooper Mark I (997cc). Built
November 14, 1962 in the UK and despatched to Los Angeles November 15,
1962. Over the years many Cooper S upgrades have been added. I purchased this
Mini in November of 2003 and began this transformation January 2004. Enjoy
the photos.

Shortly after I bought the beast, I went on a run with the SDMini Club, only broke
down 3 times - Fuel pressure problem.
First week in January I stripped the Mini down for a functional restore. My plan
was a mini hot rod and I think I got it.
"Damn Mini's !! They come to your party, drink all your beer and pass out on the
patio!" "Good thing that mattress was there when the wind blew it over." Those
are two good captions I received from the Mini Mania message board. It was
quite light at this point. This is an easy way to replace parts of the pan and
restore the bottom.
I love POR-15 products. This is their Tie-Primer, primes almost any surface and
almost everything will stick to it.
Its great having my son Colin around when you need help.
All painted and waiting for disc brake parts

600 watt stereo system 12 inches from the back of your head - For gods sakes,
I gotta have tunes!

On regular days (Non-Rally) a passenger cup holder is installed with wing bolts and nuts. Within seconds the cup holder is removed and the rally computer is installed.
This is an Alfa-Elite TSD Rally Computer from Small Systems Specialists complete with Drivers Display shown below. The Delphi GPS is mounted above the Alpha-Elite Navigator's display on rally days.
This is my custom mount for the Alfa Rally Computers. Simple mounts using wing bolts and wing nuts. Since I only have one odo sensor, only 4 wires are needed so I used a common trailer light harness as a quick disconnect from the car. Make sure the exposed pin on the car side of the harness is ground to eliminate any arcs and sparks. Top two brackets are steel, bottom leg is aluminum with rubber. The hole in the dash shelf has a rubber gromment also.
This is the Alfa Elite Drivers Display. On non-rally days, the GPS is mounted in the same place. Velcro is a wonderful thing. My daughter Jacqueline made the custom dash in high school metal shop. AutoMeter electronic gauges for oil, water and voltage.
This is the odo sensor that is supplied with the Alfa rally computers. The bracket is mounted with existing brake plate bolt and GOOP is applied between the bracket and the plate for stability and vibration dampening. The wiring enters the car in the corner of the back seat and is fed up the dash along the floor. Yep, that is a closeup of an adjustable GAZ shock.

To reduce the heat around the carb and float bowl, I added a small hood scoop. It really does the job, no more vapor lock for this mini

Many thanks to AJ Ashley, Mike Spangler and Lee Casad for their guidance on the Mini. Thanks to Mike at Small Systems Specialists for his help with the rally computer.
